Polyunsaturated Oils
Oils in this group are dominant in polyunsaturated fatty acids. These oils tend to be higher in pigments and antioxidants than the foundation oils.
Polyunsaturated fatty acid dominant oils are absorbent, but also delicate and need to be handled with care.
Use: Adding specific antioxidants and fatty acids to a formula. For some of the more pigmented oils, adding small amounts will give your formula the benefits without too much color.
Note: With a few exceptions, carrier oils, botanical oils and plant butters are safe to use full strength on the skin though some of the highly pigmented oils like buriti and sea buckthorn can temporarily stain the skin.
Store these oils cool and dark, and if you have a oil fridge, consider putting some of the oils higher in polyunsaturated fatty acids in the refrigerator.
Shelf life is typically 6 to 18 months depending on the type of oil.
